Description

India is country of multiple languages, many of them spoken by millions of people and each has its own region of dominance (state); many states have larger population than over half the countries of the world. Presently 22 languages are listed in the Indian constitution. All of them are spoken by populations larger than many countries. Yet these languages, except for Hindi, are treated as secondary languages, and only Hindi and English are used as working languages in the Indian parliament. While Hindi parliament members can use their language Hindi with no limitation or conditions, others cannot.
Ministers are allowed to speak only in Hindi or English; this disqualifies capable non-Hindis who do not know Hindi or English from becoming ministers or prime minister or president. Members of parliament may speak in non-Hindi languages of India if they give 24 hours notice; even with such notice, they are not allowed to ask follow-up questions. Parliamentary proceedings are translated into English and Hindi only, and so those who do not know either language cannot effectively represent their constituents in parliament. Although difficult to conduct parliament in 22 languages, it is possible and it has been done. European Parliament has 23 working languages and no member is discriminated on the basis of language. It is possible but Hindi politicians want to keep their superiority over others. They are the lords of the Indian parliament.
The ten articles in this book discuss the privileges offered to Hindi parliamentarians. Several incidences in parliament that show their arrogance and outright contempt for others are described. Most people do not know many of the incidences discussed in this book. Are non-Hindis mere vassals in India or are they full-fledged citizens?
